As I mentioned on Wednesday, today I'll discuss another L-carnitine study that showed it can improve fertility in men. This isn't new, since it's been studied with positive results in the past, but this does add more confirmation into its benefits.
This study involved 22 male infertile male patients who had cryo-preserved their sperm for later use in fathering children. However, while this process can beneficially influence outcomes in assisted reproduction procedures, it is also known to decrease sperm quality. Therefore, the effects of L-carnitine applied to sperm samples during cyropreservation was examined (in comparison to sperm cyropreserved without L-carnitine).
Results found that while no statistical difference was found in the levels of DNA oxidation between samples and controls, both sperm motility and vitality was improved significantly when sperm was mixed with L-carnitine. This is great because reduced sperm motility is one of the major causes of male infertility, and studies are showing that there are a number of nutritional products that can address this particular issue.
